Music brings comfort to a child trapped by conflict in Ukraine

“When I play the piano, I can forget about the war,” says nine-year-old Maksym in #Ukraine. Conflict has forced him and his family to flee across the country from east to west, leaving behind their home and loved ones. They’ve found shelter in the auditorium of the Lviv Academic Theatre near the Polish border. Before they fled, Maksym was due to perform at his first concert. Instead, some of his first listeners are you. The family doesn’t know when they will return home and hug their relatives. But Maksym hopes for a peaceful future: “I want to return to this theatre to watch a play.” As UNICEF and partners scale up water, health supplies and psychosocial support for families, children need peace now.
