UNICEF Annual Results Report 2017: Water, Sanitation and Hygiene

The Annual Results Report describes the actions and successes of the World Health Organization–UNICEF Joint Monitoring Programme for Water Supply, Sanitation and Hygiene between 2014 and 2017. First, the report briefly presents some information about the current water crisis across the world. Then, it proceeds to explain changes in access to clean water between 2014 and 2017. The reports includes results in six program areas: water, sanitation, hygiene, WASH in schools, emergency, and enabling environment. For each program area, the report elaborates on sub-topics that have been targeted by WHO-UNICEF programs. Also, the report includes a section on the connections between WASH and other global challenges, such as nutrition and human rights. Besides simply listing results, the report outlines a strategic plan to continue improving WASH in 2018-2021. Throughout the report, there are several case studies that illustrate the nature and effectiveness of the programs discussed in the report. Overall, the report provides a summary of current efforts to expand access to water and improve sanitation and hygiene across the world.
